College & Community International Affairs
Outreach Program

The College & Community International Affairs Outreach Program’s purpose is to increase the knowledge of international and inter-cultural matters in community college and university students, and the community at large throughout Hawaii.

Program Features
Cultural Presentations and Demonstrations
Organized in cooperation with local community organizations and artists, PAAC provides international cultural performances and demonstrations to students, young professionals and the general public. Performances and presentations can range from traditional Korean cuisine cooking demos to aboriginal music and dances from Australia. These programs educate students, faculty members, and the general public about world culture, traditions, and heritage through folk arts, thereby fostering an appreciation for cultural diversity, cross-cultural understanding, and the arts.

Speaker Forums and Classroom Lectures
To supplement classroom learning and the college curriculum, opportunities to hear from and dialogue with speakers and experts in international affairs can be organized for students, faculty and the general public.

Roundtable Discussions
PAAC will partner with local organizations to organize roundtable discussions on current foreign policy issues for university undergraduate, graduate, or community college students. These roundtables will enable students to discuss current issues with their peers and come up with possible solutions together.

Career Exploration and Networking Opportunities
PAAC provides career exploration and networking opportunities for community college and university students. In partnership with local businesses and organizations, PAAC coordinates panel and/or individual presentations, seminars, and professional mixers in various international fields.

Academic WorldQuest Competition
The Academic WorldQuest Competition is an exciting internationally themed quiz competition which includes six intense rounds of questions that test participant’s knowledge of international topics such as current events, geography, and people in the news. The competition is unique to the World Affairs Council System, and has increased participants’ knowledge about world issues as well as their interest in foreign affairs. This competition is open to all university and community college students statewide and co-sponsored in partnership with the University of Hawaii at Manoa Office of International and Exchange Programs, Hawaii Pacific University, and the University of Hawaii Community College Systems.

Through PAAC mailings, community college faculty are informed of other PAAC's activities that promote understanding of international affairs, including luncheons and forums featuring prominent figures from diplomatic, academic, business and journalistic fields.

University of Hawaii Community College Study Abroad Scholarship
The Pacific and Asian Affairs Council scholarship will be awarded to a participant of the UHCC Summer Study Abroad Programs. This scholarship helps students further their international interests through a meaningful experience abroad. This award will provide three students with $500 each to help defray the program cost.
