Leeward Community College placed first at
the November 2007 UHCC Academic
WorldQuest Competition
On November 16, 2007, PAAC held its second annual Community College Academic WorldQuest competition at Kapiolani Community College as part of Hawaii International Education Week. The competition has grown from 22 to 30 teams with over 100 students representing Leeward, Windward, Honolulu, and Kapiolani Community Colleges. Students answered questions from six categories: Current Affairs, People in the News, Asia and Pacific, The Global Twentieth Century, Ideas and Ideology in the Ancient World, and International Law.
A team from Leeward Community College placed first for the second time in a row, winning a $100 cash prize for each team member. Another Leeward Community College team placed second and a Honolulu Community College team placed third winning $50 and $25 cash prizes, respectively, for each team member.
PAAC would like to thank UHCC WorldQuest Committee Members Rob Edmonson, Carl Hefner, Patricia Neils, Patrick Paterson, Alejandro Ramos, Julie Rancilio, and Beng Poh Yoshikawa for helping to organize the competition, create questions, and recruit students. PAAC also thanks Kutmaster Spaz for emceeing; Representative Karen L. Awana, Representative Karl Rhoads, Chancellor Leon Richards, Dean Ralph Kam, Dean Dennis Kawaharada, and Instructor Barry Nakamura for judging and supporting students at the competition; and Central Pacific Bank, Karen Simon, and Lappert’s Ice Cream for their generous donations.
