2007-2008 High
School Schedule of Events
Since
1954, PAAC has conducted educational outreach programs
for high school students through a network of student
clubs in Hawaii's public and private high schools.
PAAC offers many opportunities for high school students
and teachers to enrich their knowledge and perspectives
on critical global issues in the following program
areas.
After-School
Classes: " Connect to the World "
PAAC
sponsors several after-school global studies classes where students can receive credit towards graduation. Guest speakers, simulations, and international curriculum engage students with first-hand
experiences. Through Global Action Projects, students are challenged to think critically
about the world they live in, and take positive action
to bring about changes in their local community. Curriculum on international topics such as human
rights, population, and globalization is also available
to teachers. For
more information, please contact the After-School
Class Coordinator, Merle Grybowski at
944-7786.
Conferences
PAAC's
annual statewide conference brings together students
from clubs and classes in private and public schools
throughout the islands to explore global issues together.
International negotiation simulations are also held
on Oahu and neighbor islands.
Scholarships
Students
in Hawaii high schools involved in PAAC activities
are eligible to apply for scholarships. Over $15,000
is available for college, study-abroad, and other
educational pursuits. Full and partial scholarships
are also available for up to four students to participate in summer study abroad programs administered
by Punahou School's Wo International Center.
Travel
Program
The PAAC
Travel Program plans and leads educational tours of
selected destinations in the Asia Pacific region exclusively
for Hawaii public high school students.
Academic WorldQuest
Academic

to enhance international education. Teams compete
in six rounds working together to come up with the
