PAAC awards up to 5 academic scholarships and
23 travel scholarships to high school students statewide each year

Edwin
and Cobey Black Scholarship
This scholarship is given in memory of Brigadier General
Edwin F. Black, a distinguished member of PAAC’s
Board of Governors, who believed that world peace
rests on today’s students who are knowledgeable
in international affairs and who will strive for global
harmony as future leaders. General Black's wife, Cobey
sits on the PAAC Senior Advisory Council. One $1,000
scholarship is given each year to a graduating senior
who has been involved in PAAC.
Paul. S Honda
Scholarship
Mr. Paul S. Honda, a distinguished member of PAAC’s
Senior Advisory Council, established an endowment
for this scholarship fund for the purpose of promoting
Asian Studies and International Studies in higher
education. Four $1,000 scholarship are given each
year to graduating seniors who have been involved in
PAAC.
Theresa McNeil Award
This scholarship is given in celebration of the life of Theresa McNeil, a woman who made substantial contributions to the advancement of U.S.-China relations. One $1,000 scholarship is given each
year to a graduating senior who has been involved in
PAAC.
Eddie Tangen
Award
The legacy of Eddie Tangen, a pioneer in the development
of Hawaii’s labor movement and past member of
PAAC’s Board of Governors, is honored with a
$100 award given yearly in his name to one PAAC student
in grades 9-11.
Travel Scholarships
Punahou Study Abroad Scholarships
Application deadline was December 21, 2007
The Punahou Study Abroad Scholarships are
awarded to eligible sophomores and juniors in Hawaii's
public high schools. These scholarships helps students
who have been active in PAAC activities and who are
promising globally-minded leaders of the future to
further their international interests through a meaningful
study abroad experience. The scholarships are made
possible through the generous contributions of Frank
Boas, member of PAAC's Senior Advisory Council, and
Jean Rolles, Vice President of PAAC's Board of Governors,
and the Freeman Foundation. These scholarships will
provide three PAAC students with full scholarships
to pay for tuition to attend one of Punahou School's
Summer Study Abroad Programs in 2008. Program destinations
in 2008 are China and Japan.

Study Tour Travel Program Scholarships

The PAAC Travel Program leads educational
tours of selected destinations in the Asia Pacific
region exclusively for Hawai'i public high school
students. Each year, twenty full scholarship are awarded
to students thanks to a generous grant from the Freeman
Foundation. Previous destinations include: China (2004),
South Korea (2005), Japan (2006), and Vietnam (2007). In 2008 students will tour China and Taiwan.
