49 International Visitors Participate in Professional Exchange

From May to July 2019, PAAC hosted seven IVLP delegations comprised of 49 emerging and mid-level professionals from the Asia-Pacific region. Here are some highlights from their time in Hawai'i. Pictured above, six Indonesian fisheries and conservation experts visited the Hawaiʻi Institute for Marine Biology on Coconut Island to observe local efforts to address coral bleaching.

Six South Korean security and border protection experts met with the U.S. Coast Guard District 14 to discuss the District’s mission and role defending U.S. and Hawaiʻi's waters.

Nine Afghani artists visited the Honolulu Museum of Art to learn about local artists and their commitment to promoting social change through the arts.

Six Mongolian cybersecurity experts tasked with the creation of their nation's first National Cybersecurity Center met with locally-based organizations spearheading efforts to understand and protect U.S. digital interests in an unpredictable 21st century.

Nine Japanese civil servants, representatives of chambers of commerce, and journalists met with Dr. Jonathan Osorio of the Hawaiʻinuiakea School of Hawaiian Knowledge to discuss the history of the U.S. military's presence in Hawaiʻi.
