Big Ideas Come to Fruition with the PAAC Club Fund

May 01, 2019

PAAC established a new “Club Fund” initiative this school year, giving proactive students in PAAC Clubs the resources to pursue their interests in global issues. PAAC Clubs frequently fundraise on their own, yet the costs of implementing projects or pursuing meaningful learning opportunities outside of school are often limiting. Thanks to funding from the Freeman Foundation, the PAAC Club Fund provides financial support for clubs to attend PAAC events and carry out Global Action Projects in their community. Students in a homeschool PAAC club used the funds to start Project O.C.E.A.N., an educational campaign about the consequences of plastic pollution. They visited 57 classrooms and community events, educating more than 2,000 people and giving out 500 stainless-steel straws (pictured above). The Club Fund also supported transportation costs for 17 neighbor island students and three teachers to attend PAAC summits and workshops on Oʻahu.
