Bringing the World to Hawaiʻi: International Visitor Leadership Program

From September to December 2017, PAAC hosted five International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) groups representing 21 countries in Africa, Central and East Asia, and the Pacific. They explored topics in maritime conservation and economic development, youth civic engagement, emergency response preparedness, and U.S.-Pacific relations. A multi-regional delegation met with Matson Senior Vice President of Pacific Operations, Mr. Vic Angoco, to learn about the local shipping industry and its strategic importance in the Pacific Ocean.

 

An Indian delegation met with students of Mililani High School's Advanced Placement Government class and social studies teachers Mr. Jason Duncan and Mrs. Amy Perruso to discuss civic engagement among Hawai‘i's youth and U.S.-Indian relations.

A New Zealand-based Pacific Islander delegation met with diverse professionals to discuss leadership development, U.S.-Pacific relations, and the empowerment of Pacific peoples in Hawai‘i.

An Indonesian delegation comprised of maritime officials met with the Hanauma Bay Education Program to learn about local conservation efforts.
