Are you passionate about international affairs and actively involved in PAAC clubs, classes, and activities?

  • * SENIORS, here is your golden opportunity to secure funding for your first semester of college!
  • * And for students in grades 9-11, it's a chance to be recognized with an award for all your hard work!
     

Two Outstanding PAAC Academic Scholarships and Awards:

  1. 1. Honda Scholarships
    1. What: Four scholarships, each worth $1,000
    2. Who: Graduating seniors involved with PAAC programs
  2. 2. Tangen Award
    1. What: One award, valued at $300
    2. Who: PAAC Club Members of Officer in grades 9, 10, or 11

 

Deadlines:

  • All materials for either Honda or Tangen must be received by PAAC by Friday March 29, 2024 at 5:00 pm.
  • Applicants will be notified by April 5, 2024. 

 

Award Presentation:

The recipient(s) of the Paul s. Honda Scholarship and Eddie Tangen Award will be formally recognized at PAAC's Student Showcase on May 4, 2024, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, Campus Center Ballroom. Their outstanding achievements will also be highlighted through PAAC's communication channels.
 

Preparing Your Honda Application!

 
Mr. Paul S. Honda, a distinguished member of PAAC’s Senior Advisory Council, established this scholarship to promote Asian Studies and International Relations in higher education. Here's what you need for your application:
 

Required Materials:

  1. 1. Form application (here)
  2. 2. Two essays- 250 word min and 500 word max for each- upload to application or email
  3. 3. Unofficial Transcript- upload to application or email
  4. 4. Two recommendations from a teacher or trusted community member (easy Google form)
     
* Honda Essay 1 Prompt: (250 word min and 500 word max )
What is a global issue you are focused on? How has taking part in PAAC activities expanded your understanding of world affairs/global issues, and how will receiving a scholarship help you to continue learning about global issues? 
 
* Honda Essay 2 Prompt: (250 word min and 500 word max )
Describe how one person active in international relations, today or historically, who has influenced the way you think about the world and international affairs.

Nominate Exceptional Students for the Eddie Tangen Award!

 

PAAC is proud to continue honoring the legacy of Eddie Tangen, a pioneer in the development of Hawaiʻi’s labor movement and a past member of PAAC’s Board of Governors. The Eddie Tangen Award is a $300 annual recognition given in his name to outstanding students in grades 9, 10, or 11 who have demonstrated a keen interest in international affairs and are actively involved in PAAC as club members or officers.

 

Nomination Process:

How and Who Can Be Nominate?

  • A.) PAAC Club members are invited to nominate fellow club officers or members for this prestigious award.
  • B.) Club advisors or PAAC Club members can submit nominations using the form below. 
  • C.) Your thoughtful input will play a crucial role in identifying deserving candidates for the Eddie Tangen Award.
  • D.) We will emphasize the quality of the nomination--what you say about the student-- versus the quantity of nominations received. This is NOT a popularity contest.

Number of Nominations:

  • * Each PAAC Club member can nominate up to two candidates.
  • * Students cannot nominate themselves.
