Global Vision Summit: Media Literacy

Fake news, deep fake videos, propaganda- with so much content claiming to be news, how do you know what to trust? Join us for our 2019 Fall Global Vision Summit on Media Literacy to develop tools to be a discerning and responsible consumer of information.


 

Academic WorldQuest Competition

1:30- 4:30pm 
University of Hawaiʻi Manoa- Campus Center Ballroom,  Kealakehe High, Maui High, Molokai High, Waiakea High

Gather your friends and test your knowledge of global current events in this statewide trivia competition. The winning team wins a trip to Washington, D.C. to compete at Nationals! 

Categories: China's Belt & Road Initiative, Country in Focus: South Korea, Oceans: The World's Garbage Dump, U.S.-Russia Relations, Brexit and the EU, and Current Events. Download the official study guide here. All questions will be drawn from the study guide materials.

 

Competition Format:   During the competition, you will be asked 10 multiple choice questions per category. There are 6 categories. You can consult your team members (4 people per team) to decide your final answer. Teams are not allowed to consult with the audience, wireless devices, cell phones, other teams, books or written material at any point during the competition. Teams have 1 minute to answer each question. You will receive 1 point for each correct answer. There are no penalties for wrong answers.  Use the official study guide to study! All questions are sourced from the study guide.

Registration Information

Registration Deadline: November 4, 2019 

Register online at: https://forms.gle/eJfWUjsE8yRVAHUX9.  A parent/guardian signature is required.  

Cost for Oahu Participants: $15 per student (regardless of whether you attend the Global Vision Summit, WorldQuest, or both).   Lunch is provided only for those attending both GVS and WQ.

Cost for Neighbor Island Participants: $10 per student.  Refreshments will be provided.

Payment can be made by sending cash or check to PAAC at 1601 East-West Rd, 4th Flr, Honolulu, HI 96848.  Checks should be payable to "PAAC".  You can also pay online, using the yellow button below.  When paying online, there will be an extra charge to cover paypal transaction fees. Be sure to include your name and school in the box provided below.
