2023 Honda Scholarship Recipient: Larrianne Joy Sanchez

Larrianne Joy Sanchez, King Kekaulike High School Senior

- PAAC KKHS Global Book Club Leader -

Larrianne is the president of her AVID Club, a class representative for student government, and the social media coordinator for the KKHS Surf Rider Club. Additionally, she is an AVID volunteer, participating in community service projects throughout Maui while remaining active in her school community. She is ranked 38/206 at King Kekaulike High School with a 3.87 GPA.

Larrianne immigrated from the Philippines to Hawai‘i with her family at age 10 and watched as her father labored to support her family and create a better life, eventually achieving citizenship after seven years.  Her father and U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are her role models because they are always willing to stand up and work hard, and believe in treating immigrants with “humanity and dignity.”

Her time with PAAC and the Global Book Club has “opened [her] eyes to the many injustices suffered by people in places far away.” While their pain is not hers, she is moved by their stories and hopes to become an international travel nurse who can offer aid to those in need.

She will attend the University of Portland.
