PAAC's Academic Scholarship applications are open!

 

Do you have a demonstrated interest in international affairs?

Have you been involved in PAAC clubs, classes, and activities?

 
SENIORS, this is your chance to receive funding for your first semester of college, and students grades 9-11, this is an opportunity to receive an award for all your hard work!
 

Two PAAC Academic Scholarships: 

The following PAAC Academic Scholarships are available to public, private, charter, and home schooled high school students in Hawaiʻi who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to international affairs, and are actively involved with PAAC. 
 
 
  • * Honda Scholarships: Four, $1,000 scholarships for graduating seniors
  • * Tangen Award: One, $300 award to one student in grade 9, 10, or 11.
 

Application Deadline- Tangen CLOSED: Friday March 31, 2023 at 5:00pm

EXTENDED Deadline for Honda: Sunday, April 9, 9:00 pm

EDDIE TANGEN AWARD
 

The legacy of Eddie Tangen, a pioneer in the development of Hawaiʻi’s labor movement and past member of PAAC’s Board of Governors, is honored with a $300 award given yearly in his name to one student in grade 9, 10, or 11 who has demonstrated interest in international affairs and is actively involved in PAAC. In addition to the application materials, an applicant's participation, leadership, financial need and overall involvement in PAAC will be considered.
 
  • * Required materials: form application, one essay, school transcript, and one recommendation from a teacher or trusted community member 
     
  • * Tangen Essay Prompt: How has taking part in PAAC activities expanded your understanding of world affairs and how would receiving this award help you to pursue your learning further?
 

PAUL S. HONDA AWARD
 

Mr. Paul S. Honda, a distinguished member of PAAC’s Senior Advisory Council, established an endowment for this scholarship fund for the purpose of promoting Asian Studies or International Relations in higher education. Four $1,000 scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors who can demonstrate a desire to pursue Asian Studies, International Relations, or a related field at the post-secondary level, and have been actively involved with PAAC. In addition to the application materials, an applicant's participation, leadership, financial need and overall involvement in PAAC will be considered.
 
  • * Required materials: form application, two essays, transcript, and two recommendations from a teacher or trusted community member. 

  • * Honda Essay 1 Prompt: How has taking part in PAAC activities expanded your understanding of world affairs, and how will receiving a scholarship help you to continue learning about global issues?

  • * Honda Essay 2 Prompt: Describe how one person active in international relations, today or historically, has influenced the way you think about the world and international affairs.

Deadlines and Details

  1. 1) All materials must be received by PAAC by Friday March 31, 2023 at 5:00pm.

  2. 2) Teacher Recommendations should be submitted by the same deadline- March 31.

  3. 3) Essays should be no longer than 1 page/ 500 words (single-spaced).

  4. 4) You will not be interviewed for this scholarship, so be sure to express yourself well in your essay(s).  The application form accepts PDF format only.

  5. 5) Applicants will be notified by April 4, 2023
